Rediscovering Enid Blyton and the Famous Five

Rediscovering Enid Blyton and the Famous Five

Enid Blyton and children My first Blyton book was a Noddy book, I can still remember sitting in bed as a four year old at my grand-parents house in Beddgelert, a little village that looked out over Snowdonia, the wind and rain pelted against the windows that wintry evening but I was safely tucked up in my holiday bed reading and re-reading my Noddy goes to Town book.
I can not be sure if my fascination with books started at that moment of time or before but I do still fondly remember the feeling of being cosy and warm and totally lost within a book.

Five go off on a hike together I soon progressed on to her Famous Five and the Secret Seven series of books, how many of them I got to actually read, I could not tell you but it was at least ten or so, maybe even a lot more before I moved on to the Dr Who books full of cybermen and daleks.
The Enid Blyton stories were always full adventure and conflicts between the characters, for a young boy into reading they were hard to put down, there was always one more chapter that needed reading before I would sleep.

The Sea of Adventure All of the Enid Blyton book ranges have been modernised, so that they are in tune with modern day society, which is not a bad thing some of them are well over fifty years old now and some are going on seventy.
A lot of the books are available now on the kindle but reprints of paperbacks/hardbacks are available. One thing is for sure, even though they are not word by word copies of the originals which is probably a good thing, they are still today a great set of books for todays children to remember fondly when they grow old.

Enid Blyton and portable Enid Blyton's writing career involved selling an amazing 600 million copies of her books, including books that have been translated into over 80 different languages. She wrote an amazing 944 short story series books as well as 186 novels, then there is her character books, educational books and so on, she really was a dedicated author.
I was stumbling round the internet yesterday trying to find a book to read that I had also read as a child, I guess a re-visiting of my childhood and came across this website EnidBlyton.net. If you want to relive Enid Blyton's books then this is the website for you, with its long description of many of her books. disclaimer I don't know the people who run it but it is a lovely site.
Can you remember back to your first memories of reading, where you were, who you were with and the book that you was reading? If so please leave a comment about it below.
