Why Are Twitter Locking Out Indie Authors?

Why is twitter locking out indie authors?

Since Friday the 13th of October, it seems more and more authors are going onto Facebook complaining they have been locked out of Twitter.

Readers Gazette have also been locked out and sadly not just once but about 6 times now until we gave up trying, we have had different reasons for why this has happened including suspected automation of tweets and other more obscure reasons which do not really explain why!

It is not only us, a lot of authors have come forward saying exactly the same is happening to them, the worst part is when they do get their Twitter accounts unlocked within a few hours they too are locked out again and have to go through the same unlocking process over and over again.

Inappropriate or suspicious activity seems to be one of Twitters favourite reasons, what does it mean, well it could mean anything but it really does sound incriminating and villainous, something that Twitter really should not be calling these authors who believe they are following the rules.

As far as I can tell it is only my author friends that are being targeted, I can not see any posts by games programmers, musicians or youtuber friends who use twitter just as much as authors do. I could be wrong since I know a lot more authors than other groups of people.

I know twitter wants to be seen as a less automated social platform, they have changed their rules to try to exclude the use of automation, tweet bots and autotweeters, as well as automated messaging service providers but targeting real people is not the way to go about it, all they are doing is making these people look elsewhere to socialize.

In the news it seems Twitter is cracking down on hate tweets, non-consensual nudity and sexual harassment but I can not see why so many authors would at the same time be targeted, yes some authors do tweet book covers designed for over 18 year olds but I can not believe that even a small percentage of the authors I know would have posted anything undesirable.

If you can think of why so many authors this weekend are being locked out of Twitter or it has happened also to you then please leave a comment in the comment box below.

Caves of Steel (The Robot Series Book 1) by Isaac Asimov

A millennium into the future two advancements have altered the course of human history:  the colonization of the galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain.  Isaac Asimov's Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together.  Like most people left behind on an overpopulated Earth, New York City police detective Elijah Baley had little love for either the arrogant Spacers or their robotic...
