Introduced by the Author
Back in 1995, in the Stone Age of print publishing I began to compile a loose collection of poems that would become my first book The Pagan Field. I was young, headstrong, foolish, badlyinformed and full of dreams; maybe I should have stayed in that place, they were happy carefree days. That first short collection of poems was filled with idealism, surrealism and a romantic rosetinted view of the world around me. The poems from that era, reproduced in this midterm retrospective, represent that young man, now a stranger to me; they are in many ways naïve but I hope entertaining. In the few short years that followed The Pagan Field my love of poetry waned and the poems included here from that time are laced with a sarcasm, almost an anger, at the world in general.

Cityscapes was a different animal than The Pagan Field and written by a changed man. I embraced the concept of making the familiar strange and the strange familiar. I revelled in free verse intermixed with stylistic structures and literary devices. The collection itself was largely written in London in the summer of 2001 with additional poems added up until 2005. Its main remit was observation, sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic but always, I hope, nonjudgmental.
In 2010, rather later than most people, I discovered the benefits of the internet publishing revolution. The idea that someone in India, Japan or Brazil would read and enjoy your work attracted me to epublishing. It was from my feeling that Cityscapes had not been indepth enough that my third collection Urbania was formed.
Urbania was first published as a freetoread collection on its own website and later as an extended ebook. The poems were much more fantastical as I...
