Shania Twain Early Life
On August 28, 1965, Eilleen Regina Edwards, now known as Shania Twain, was born in Windsor, Ontario. When she was two years old, her parents, Sharon and Clarence Edwards, were divorced, and her mother took her three girls to Timmins, Ontario. Jerry Twain, who Sharon married, formally adopted the girls and gave them his surname. Twain has stated that she had a challenging upbringing due to their parents’ meagre income and the paucity of food in their home. Shania frequently saw violence between her mother and stepfather because their relationship was tense to begin with.
Her mother transported the daughters 420 kilometres to a Toronto homeless shelter in 1979 in order to get them help. In 1981, Sharon went back to Jerry with the kids. At the age of eight, Shania began performing in bars in an effort to support her family financially. At the age of 10, Twain created her first two songs, “Is Love a Rose” and “Just Like the Storybooks.” The “Tommy Hunter Show” on the CBC invited Twain to perform when he was 13 years old. She was a singer for a neighbourhood cover band named Longshot while she was in high school. 1983 saw her graduate from Timmins High.
Shania Twain Career
After Longshot broke up, Twain performed in a cover band called Flirt and toured all over Ontario with them while taking singing lessons from Toronto voice coach Ian Garrett. She was noticed by Toronto DJ Stan Campbell who took her to Nashville to record demos, which she had difficulty financing. She became friends with regional country singer Mary Bailey who was instantly a fan of Shania’s voice. Twain moved into Bailey’s house under a recording contract and practised her music for hours a day and continued to record demos. She met John Kim Bell who had close contacts with the Canadian Country Music Association.
The two secretly began dating. Her first big break came when Bell staged a fundraiser in 1987 at which Shania performed at. On November 1, 1987, Shania’s mother and stepfather tragically died in a car accident. She put her singing career on hold and moved back home to take care of her younger siblings. She performed at the Deerhurst Resort in Ontario to support them. Several years later, after her siblings moved out on their own, she assembled a demo tape and caught the attention of several labels, including Mercury Nashville Records. They signed her within a few months.
Shania Twain Personal Life
In 1993, Shania met legendary producer Mutt Lange. Later that year, they got married, and they had a kid in 2001. It was discovered in 2008 that Mutt had an affair with Marie-Anne Thiebaud, Shania’s best friend. In June 2010, they divorced after divorcing. Shania and businessman Frederic Thiebaud, Marie-ex-husband, Anne’s got engaged in December 2010! 2011 saw their January nuptials.

Shania Twain Success
In 1993, Shania released “Shania Twain,” her debut album. This album wasn’t a big hit when it was first published, but as her subsequent albums propelled her to superstardom, it finally sold one million copies. Her popularity and listeners outside of Canada increased thanks to the album. Even though the album only peaked at No. 67 on the US Country Albums Chart, reviews for it were generally favourable. The CD was popular in Europe, where Twain received the Rising Video Star of the Year Award from Country Music TV Europe.
The Woman in Me, Shania’s 1995 album, served as the catalyst for her career. 4 million copies of this record were sold in its first year of availability, and ultimately 12 million copies were sold. Hits like “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” “You Win My Love” and “No One Needs to Know” were featured on “The Woman in Me.” The record won Album of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Grammy for Best Country Album.
Thank you to Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame for this honor. It feels really good to be among so many of my songwriting idols and for my own songwriting to be celebrated – Ironically I was at home in Switzerland writing when this was announced! π https://t.co/pKHupLDtYw

I Feel Like a Woman” and “You’re Still the One,” two of her most well-known songs to date, were on this album. Four Grammy Awards, including Best Country Song and Best Female Country Performance, were given to the album, which remained at the top of the charts for two years. The songs gained more recognition in Europe, and in the summer of 1999, “That Don’t Impress Me Much” peaked at No. 3 in the UK and reached the Top 10 in Germany.
Furthermore, “You’ve Got a Way” was remixed and included in the “Notting Hill” soundtrack. In 1999, Shania was ranked as the artist with the most radio airplay by Billboard. In 1998, she started her first significant headlining concert tour. After a two-year break, Shania returned in 2002 with the album “Up!” It went on to sell more than 20 million copies globally. Her 2017 album “Now” debuted at the top of the charts for the Billboard Hot 100, US Country, and Canada.
The autobiography of Shania Twain was released in that year. In the 2011 TV show “Why Not? with Shania Twain,” which she starred in as herself in addition to singing, Twain shared her journey from adversity and a devastating personal life to become one of the best-selling female artists in history. Twain was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in June 2011. She is presently the only female artist in history to have three consecutive albums certified by the RIAA as diamonds, and she is the second best-selling artist in Canada, behind CΓ©line Dion.
