The Big Sick Plot
Chicago’s Uber driver Kumail is also a struggling stand-up comedian performing a one-man show about his life as a Pakistani American. However, he is not interested in following in his immigrant parents’ footsteps. They have been pressuring him to take the LSAT and setting him up with young, unmarried Pakistani women in the hopes that he will agree to an arranged marriage.
Kumail and Emily, a white psychology student, meet at a show and have a one-night encounter, which leads to an unforeseen relationship. Kumail keeps it a secret because he fears his family will disown him. At the five-month mark, Emily discovers images of the young woman Kumail’s parents have matched him up with. After he says he is unsure if they have a future together, she dumps him.

A friend of Emily’s calls Kumail in the middle of the night to tell him that Emily has been admitted to the hospital with a severe lung infection and has to be placed in an induced coma as soon as possible. He phones Beth and Terry, her parents, and pretends to be her husband so that he may get their approval to put her into a coma.
Parents who know of their daughter’s tumultuous separation from Kumail tell him he is unnecessary; yet, he chooses to stay, and the three of them become closer while dealing with Emily’s illness. At one of Kumail’s stand-up performances, Beth and Terry watch as a racist heckler attacks Kumail, prompting Beth to defend him.
Emily’s kidneys become infected despite surgery’s best efforts to combat the disease. However, Kumail and Terry strongly oppose Beth’s plan to move Emily to a new facility. After an argument with Beth, Terry stays with his friend Kumail. Terry admits he’s cheated on Beth in the past and feels terrible about it.
Kumail’s parents visit him, and they are not pleased that he is ignoring their marriage advice. Kumail explains that he has renounced Islam, does not want an arranged marriage, and is in a relationship with Emily. As a result, he is abandoned by his parents. When Kumail finds out that the illness has spread to Emily’s heart, he has to cancel his audition for the Montreal Comedy Festival.
Kumail starts sobbing while explaining his concerns for Emily’s health and bombing his audition. After Kumail explains that Emily suffered a slow-healing ankle injury, the physicians diagnose her with adult-onset Still’s a disease, a dangerous but manageable autoimmune illness. The Big Sick Cast After leaving her coma, Emily wants Kumail to go since she can’t get over their breakup.
Undeterred, Beth extends an invitation to Kumail to attend Emily’s welcome-home bash. Kumail tries to apologize to Emily, but she rejects him because she doesn’t want their strained relationship to affect his family life. Ultimately, Kumail and his two comedic pals are relocating to the Big Apple.
He confides in them about his future aspirations and won’t take any rejection from them lying down. Emily sees a video of Kumail’s failed audition on YouTube and, recognizing her feelings, seeks him out after his performance. He informs her he’s leaving before she can finish explaining. Emily thanks him for all he has done for her while she was in the coma and wished him success in New York.
Kumail’s parents stop by just as he’s about to leave. While assuring him that they are still angry, he serves him a serving of his favorite food and asks him to keep in touch. One of Kumail’s New York City concertgoers, Emily, heckles him throughout his set. Images from the real-life wedding of Kumail (played by Ali Fazal) and Emily (Emily Blunt) are displayed during the credits. The big sick cast

The Big Sick Review
The movie has several funny and touching moments, but it also allows us to see the racism that Kumail faces. The film captures the couple at a vulnerable and pivotal moment in their relationship. It demonstrates the entertaining chemistry they share, which only improves as the movie unfolds. It’s an upbeat film that emphasizes genuine connections between people rather than dramatic turns or flashy climaxes.

The story is given a new spin by including controlling, emotional parents. Yet, the warmth of Kumail and Emily’s parents’ bond will win your heart. It’s heartening to see the three persons on the bed sharing a connection through Emily going from being icy to warming up to each other.
